Vision & Educational Approach
At OnAlti Academy, our educational approach shapes everything we do.
From individual lessons to concerts, each part of the programme is designed to support the artistic, personal, and musical development of each student.
-
Personalised education is informed by student-centred and constructivist learning theories and is based on the understanding that every musician follows a distinct artistic and personal path.
Through Individual Masterclasses, we focus on what matters most to each student, with guidance adapted to their level, goals, interests, and musical personality, while teachers also provide expert feedback to help shape and refine their artistic development.
-
Independent and reflective musicianship is based on Self-Determination Theory, which suggests that learning is strengthened when students experience autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
Through Group Lessons, we encourage students to take an active role in their learning, think critically about their practice, explore different ways of learning, exchange ideas with others, and reflect on their own progress, helping them become more aware, motivated, and independent musicians.
-
Healthy and sustainable music-making is based on the understanding that a fulfilling musical life requires awareness of both body and mind. Through Workshops, we explore movement, breathing, body awareness, wellbeing, mindset, and practice habits, helping students develop healthier and more effective ways of learning, practising, and performing.
Workshops may include Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, Body & Mind, Breathing Gym, Musicality of Movement, Flow on Stage, Improvisation, and other.
-
Community and motivation are based on the belief that musicians develop not only through individual study, but also through meaningful interaction with others, as described in Vygotsky’s social constructivist theory, which emphasises that learning is fundamentally a social process shaped through collaboration and dialogue.
Through Chamber Music and Ensemble Work, students learn to listen, communicate, collaborate, and respond to their peers, while experiencing the inspiration, motivation, and shared responsibility that come from making music together.
-
Artistic excellence is based on the belief that development requires both high standards and meaningful opportunities to perform. In line with Experiential Learning Theory (Kolb) and principles of Deliberate Practice (Ericsson), learning is deepened through real performance experiences that combine reflection, feedback, and repetition under authentic conditions.
Through Concerts, students present the work they have developed throughout the programme, applying their musical and technical skills in performance while building confidence, stage presence, and the ability to share their artistic ideas with an audience.
