Violin Lessons
Teaching
I offer personalised violin tuition for students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced and coaching to professional musicians. Lessons are available in English, Spanish, and Dutch.
As a professionally trained violinist and educator with more than two decades of experience, my teaching combines artistic excellence with evidence-informed pedagogy. My goal is not simply to teach the violin, but to help students become confident, independent musicians who continue learning long after the lesson has finished.
My Teaching Philosophy
Learner-centred
Every student is unique. I believe effective teaching begins with understanding the individual—their goals, strengths, motivations, and challenges. Rather than following a fixed method, I adapt my teaching to create a personalised learning experience that allows each student to progress at their own pace while maintaining high artistic standards.
Developing Independent Musicians
Learning extends beyond the lesson. I encourage students to think critically, solve musical problems independently, and develop efficient practice habits. By fostering autonomy and self-reflection, my aim is to equip students with the skills and confidence to continue improving throughout their musical lives.
Evidence-informed Teaching
My teaching draws upon educational psychology, learning science, deliberate practice, and performance pedagogy, combining these with my experience as an international performer and educator. Lessons are carefully designed to maximise learning while remaining engaging, purposeful, and enjoyable.
High Expectations with Individual Support
I believe students thrive when expectations are ambitious, goals are clearly defined, and feedback is constructive. I strive to create a positive, supportive learning environment where curiosity, resilience, and psychological safety enable students to challenge themselves with confidence.
Learning Beyond the Lesson
Technical progress is only one aspect of becoming a musician. I place particular emphasis on developing sustainable practice habits, healthy movement, and lifelong learning. Where appropriate, I incorporate principles from the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, Yoga, Musicality of Movement, and mindful movement to promote physical awareness, prevent unnecessary tension, and support long-term wellbeing.
Lessons also include music theory, aural skills, performance preparation, and developing creative independence. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to participate in concerts, collaborative projects, competitions, and music courses, according to their individual interests and stage of development.
Practical Information
Lessons are currently available in Zaandam and Heemskerk.
Students will need a violin, bow, and the required repertoire. I am happy to advise on choosing an instrument and can recommend options that suit different budgets.
After each lesson, students receive personalised practice goals and guidance to support effective work between lessons. My teaching schedule varies throughout the year due to performing and educational commitments, so please get in touch to discuss availability.
Additional support includes:
Personalised practice plans
Guidance on purchasing or renting an instrument
Recommended repertoire and sheet music
Recordings and listening materials when appropriate
Preparation for auditions, competitions, examinations, and summer courses
